Zakopane, a famous resort situated 100km south of Krakow, lies in a big valley at the foot of the Tatra Mountains. Although they are considerably smaller than the Alps, they represent the alpine type of landscape and they are extremely popular for having a unique and diverse fauna and flora. Zakopane is the most important Polish centre of both mountaineering and skiing, and every year it is visited by about three million tourists. After arriving to Zakopane we'll take you for a visit to a local sculpturer's house, you will also taste local hand made cheese in a small private manufacture. Your guide will show you the most important spots of Zakopane, including a famous ski jumping hill as well as wooden churches and cottages built in the unique Zakopane style based on folk traditions. You will also be given some free time to have a traditional highlander's lunch or to take a funicular ride to Gubalowka hill to admire the scenic panoramas of the Tatras. Optionally, for additional fee, we can arrange a visit to Morskie Oko mountain lake surrounded by a rocky amphitheatre of the most breathtaking beauty or take a cable car up to 2000m above sea level into the heart of High Tatras.
